CloudNC CAM Assist alternative: KinetiCAD compared
The short answer: CloudNC CAM Assist makes a CAM programmer faster inside the CAM system they already use, for 3-axis and 3+2 milling. KinetiCAD prepares the whole job without a CAM seat: it reads the model and the drawing, plans across your lathes and mills, generates and verifies the NC programs, and prices the job from the same plan. If you have programmers and a CAM licence, CloudNC is the more mature choice. If you don't, or your work crosses a lathe and a mill, look at KinetiCAD.
I run KinetiCAD. Every CloudNC fact below links to CloudNC's own site, checked November 4, 2026.
Comparison
| CloudNC CAM Assist | KinetiCAD | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | Inside Fusion, Mastercam, Siemens NX, GibbsCAM, SolidCAM (FAQ) | Standalone web app; no CAM seat |
| Who drives it | A CAM user: CAM Assist "leaves you with a CAM program that is ready to simulate and edit" | Estimator or shop lead reviews and releases |
| Input | The model opened in your CAM | STEP model plus the PDF drawing (tolerances, notes, callouts) |
| Machines | 3-axis and 3+2 milling (pricing) | Your machine list, lathe to mill |
| Lathes and mill-turn | "Does not currently support… lathes and mill-turns, though this is in development" | Plans turning and milling across machines |
| Multi-machine routing | Not described | Sequences operations across your machines and tool magazines |
| Verification | Final simulation in the host CAM | Simulated against the CAD model; operator approves before release |
| Quoting | AI cycle times; separate Quote Agent app | Quote built from the planned operations; customer portal; accepted quote books machine time |
| Language models | Not used, per CloudNC | Not used for NC; deterministic strategy generators |
| Price | $995 / $1,333 / $1,499 per month, plus your CAM licence (pricing) | On request during the pilot |
| Maturity | "1,000+ factories"; SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, AWS GovCloud option (cloudnc.com) | Alpha in supervised pilot testing; EU-hosted, on-premise for enterprise |
Where CloudNC is stronger
- Proven at scale, with US case studies and an install base that KinetiCAD doesn't have yet.
- Works in your existing CAM, so programmers keep their posts, libraries and habits.
- US compliance options (GovCloud) for defence work.
- Published pricing.
Where KinetiCAD is different
- No CAM seat and no CAM programmer required. The plan, the NC and the quote come out of one analysis of the model and drawing.
- Lathe to mill. Jobs that start on a lathe and finish on a mill are planned as one job.
- The drawing is an input to programming, not only to quoting, so tolerances and finish callouts change the strategy.
- Quote to booked machine time in the same tool.
Which to choose
- Programmers in Mastercam, Fusion, NX, GibbsCAM or SolidCAM, mostly prismatic milling: CloudNC CAM Assist.
- The owner or estimator also programs, there's no CAM seat to spare, or parts go lathe then mill: send us a STEP file and its drawing and we'll plan, program and price it with you.

Frequently asked questions
What is CloudNC CAM Assist?
CloudNC CAM Assist is an AI plug-in for Autodesk Fusion, Mastercam, Siemens NX, GibbsCAM and SolidCAM that generates machining strategies and toolpaths for 3-axis and 3+2 milling inside the host CAM, for a programmer to review, simulate and post.
Does CloudNC support lathes?
Not yet. CloudNC states that CAM Assist does not currently support lathes or mill-turn machines and that this is in development (checked November 4, 2026). Its separate Quote Agent estimates turned parts.
How much does CloudNC cost?
CloudNC lists Job Shop plans at $995, $1,333 and $1,499 per month (checked November 4, 2026). You also need a licence for the host CAM.
When is CloudNC the better choice?
If your shop has CAM programmers working in Mastercam, Fusion, NX, GibbsCAM or SolidCAM on 3-axis and 3+2 milled parts, CloudNC is mature, widely used and keeps them in their tool. KinetiCAD fits shops without a CAM seat or programmer, and jobs that span a lathe and a mill.
